Earlier this month, an iconic Weeping Willow located in the grounds of St Mary’s church in the centre of Hitchin fell. Our teams responded to the incident and promptly made it safe. Unfortunately, the tree was unable to be saved. Options were discussed with the local council and church, including allowing the stump to re-shoot, but unfortunately it was decided that the best, safest and most practicable option was to remove the tree and plant another in its place next year. However as a symbol and a reminder of this amazing tree, our team was able to create a bench in the church grounds using the main trunk of the tree. We hope that many will be able to enjoy the bench in the years to come. We understand how loved and important this tree was to many in the local community and it will be missed by many.
